A brief history of the Araglen Branch
Araglen Pony Club was set up in 1993 with only ten members and just four or five ponies generously shared by their owners! Over the years the club has grown to a membership of over thirty with a great range of facilities, including a sand arena, at the Araglen Community Field. These have been provided through the hard work and support of members of the local Hunt Club, Point to Point, Gymkhana and Araglen Carnival Committees. Thanks to them, Araglen Pony Club has been able to welcome many new young members in recent year and over thirty took part in the Summer Camp at the Community Field in July, 2011. There they developed their horse riding and stable management skills and knowledge while having lots of fun!
The Club also trains members in swimming, running and target shooting for participation in Irish Pony Club Minimus and Tetrathlon competitions if they wish to. Weekly rallies from May to September with experienced instructors involve training in show jumping, cross country, dressage and pony games.
Members from as young as seven up to the age of twenty three from Araglen, Ballyduff, Ballyhooly, Coolagown, Grange, Kilbehenny, Kildorrery, Kilworth, Lismore, Rathcormac and beyond come together to share their love of horses and learn with and from each other. Events such as quizzes, fun rides and other trips are also organised throughout the year.
While all members are encouraged to learn and participate, they are quite free to choose whether or not they want to take Pony Club Tests or take part in competitions or other events.
Araglen Pony Club reflects the community it grew out of, a homely, welcoming, relaxed, good humoured and caring place that brings so much to the lives of all who come in contact with it - a club that punches way above its weight! New Members are always welcome.
